Since the beginning of the 2000s, a wave of general passion for environmentally friendly products has brought natural bamboo wallpaper for walls to the peak of popularity, at the same time giving rise to many myths about them. Let’s try to figure out what’s true in these advertising “fairy tales” and why they’re really good, and at the same time I’ll tell you how to hang bamboo wallpaper with your own hands in 5 steps.

Myths and reality

Bamboo is a tree-like plant belonging to the order of cereals. At the moment, more than 1000 varieties of bamboo are known, but for finishing surfaces a narrow direction called “tribe-bamboo” is used. A characteristic feature of this direction is that during the growth process the stem becomes woody.

What is on the modern market

Bamboo finishing is used not only for walls, it is also actively used in the furniture industry, and the same types of cladding are used everywhere, and there are 4 such types in total:

• Noise insulation- any wall covering provides a certain level of sound insulation, while bamboo wallpaper does not have any outstanding sound insulation characteristics. Thus, bamboo-look vinyl wallpaper and real mats provide equal protection from noise;

• Simple sticking- this is the honest truth; even an amateur can cover a room with such wallpaper. Moreover, a slight curvature of the walls is not a problem for such a coating; there is no need to create a perfect plane, the main thing is that the base is strong and does not crumble;
• Easy care- the truth is, any bamboo can be washed with a soft sponge and gentle detergents;
• Communication skills- bamboo wallpaper can be combined with any materials, the main thing is that the color scheme matches. The latest trend is considered to be real bamboo and 3D photo wallpaper in the interior of the living room and bedroom.

There are only 2 noticeable disadvantages of this wallpaper - a serious price and fear of high humidity. Glue bamboo in 5 steps

As already mentioned, gluing wallpaper is not difficult, I believe that it is even easier than gluing ordinary canvases, the main thing is to choose the right glue for bamboo wallpaper on a fabric basis, we will start with this step.

Step No. 1. Selecting glue

	Finishing putty. In principle, it is possible to plant a bamboo sheet on wet putty, but it is wet, and bamboo absorbs moisture and can cause the planks to sag when drying. Plus, the white putty bleeds through the planks and is difficult to clean later.
	Liquid Nails. Excellent glue, but liquid nails are polymer-based with solvents, so for the first few days there will be a strong chemical smell in the room.

But even on clean and strong walls you cannot immediately glue bamboo. Before installing heavy coatings, the wall must be treated at least once with a strengthening primer, and it is better to use a deep-penetrating primer. Gluing can begin only after the soil has dried.

Step No. 3. Cutting

You can unravel the fabric along the lamellas with any sharp and durable knife. Home craftsmen usually have a problem with how to cut bamboo across the slats. There are three ways to solve this:

1. Thin sheets up to 3 mm are relatively easy to cut with metal scissors. I do not recommend doing this procedure with thick lamellas, as they will crack;
2. A straight, clean cut is obtained when using a hand-held miter saw. I don’t advise you to take a grinder; in general, it is strictly forbidden to use a grinder to cut any kind of wood, it’s too dangerous;
3. A jigsaw with a fine tooth is equally suitable for both straight and curved cuts, which is why it is used most often for cutting bamboo.

Step No. 4. Glue the panels

Only thick types of glue are used for such wallpaper; you cannot apply it with a brush; there may also be problems with a roller. It is best to take a spatula and spread the composition in a thin layer. First, the canvas itself is lubricated.

Now take a spatula in the same way and spread the glue on the wall in a thin layer. However, if the wall is curved, then the composition will have to be applied in a thicker layer, and accordingly the glue consumption will be higher.

Step No. 5. Completion of work

As such, the bamboo covering does not need finishing, but you will have to arrange the joints between the panels and trim the edges of the panels, since they are very visible. For these purposes, fitting strips of various configurations are produced. Such planks are either glued with the same glue or nailed with small nails.

If glue comes out between the planks, do not rush to wipe it off immediately; a stain will remain. It’s better to wait until the glue dries and peel it off with a knife.
