To avoid soot and smoke, you need a smoke collector area.

Protect the grill with a roof or canopy; if not, then cover it with a water-repellent composition (can be acrylic varnish).

Treat the grill with heat-resistant impregnation or heat-resistant varnish.

If the grill is for mass cooking, you need a blower for the intensity of burning of the coals.

A “chimney tooth” is a bend in the chimney, needed to improve draft.

Make the firebox according to the width of the skewers; there is no need to make it wider - the heat will be wasted.

Is it possible to put a barbecue made of rubble stone on clay? No, you can’t, rubble can only be used for cladding with a gap.

For masonry, a fireproof mixture and fireclay clay, soaked overnight, you can also use fireproof Vetonit, but it’s a bit expensive.

Bricks can be taken from the Tula “Novomoskovsk plant”. Either from fireclay or from full-bodied red M: 125-175 and even higher.

For laying facing tiles, use “Yunis” adhesive for stone with an acrylic additive.

How to finish a stove? Holes 3 mm burm, self-tapping screws into the brick 25-30 mm, then plaster mesh and wire to secure it, tighten the screws, tile or plaster on top of all this.

Seam thickness: on mortar - 3-5 mm, on mixture - 5-7.

For cutting, soak the brick for 5-6 minutes, for chamfering for 3-5 seconds, and rinse before laying.

How can you determine the size of the grill you need?

Stand up straight and bend your elbows as if holding skewers. Remember at what height your brushes are optimal height barbecue from the ground.

A shish kebab twenty to twenty-five centimeters long, or six to eight pieces of meat on one skewer, is optimal. That is, the grill should have a width of 30 cm, everything else will heat the air around it.

The length of the barbecue is no more than a meter, this is enough for 10 skewers. The depth of the grill is one brick - 12-13 cm of hot corners is enough for a stable heat.

Example No. 1. DIY brick grill.

We dig a pit 1600*800 cm with a depth of 600 mm and make a 10-centimeter sand cushion. We make plywood formwork and reinforce it with a double layer of mesh with a cell of 150*150 mm. We fill the formwork with concrete, and while it sets, we prepare the brick: we cut and chamfer where necessary. Foundation waterproofing is made from 6 word film with a thickness of 200 microns.

The masonry is made from refractory bricks using a heat-resistant mixture. We put 6 side by side, then overlap - 2 rows in the corner. Next three rows are solid. In the last three rows there is space for the grill itself - made of stainless steel with a depth of 214 mm. To allow air to enter the grill, we leave gaps.

Detailed diagrams and drawings for building a barbecue with your own hands

Approximate work time: 2 weeks.

Tools and materials: concrete mixer, cement, sand, gravel, wall blocks 20*10*50 cm, cellular concrete blocks 20*10*60 cm, rubble stone, shelf tiles, fire bricks, tile adhesive, tools for laying stones construction work, saw for concrete, plaster, beams 55*155 mm, reinforcement rods with a diameter of 10 mm and reinforcing mesh, rafters 55*65 mm, lathing, slats for the cabinet door, corners, screws and nails, tension bolts 8*100 mm, galvanized sheet iron, tiles.

Work progress

We use pegs and a cord to mark the area under the foundation for excavation; the trench should be 25 cm deep. We put reinforcement in two rods in the trench and fill it with concrete to 15 cm (350 kg of cement per foundation cube).

After waiting for the concrete to set, we move on to the base of 3 sections - two for firewood, one for a cabinet. Checking the masonry with levels, we lay out the walls in rows of 20*10*50 cm blocks on the foundation.

To give the cellular concrete blocks for the arch the desired shape, we use a concrete saw.

Using formwork and reinforcement, we cast the base of the hearth and the shelves on the sides. On the base on three sides we place refractory bricks in three rows with offset joints - these walls are needed to mount the grill for frying at different heights.

The base and the pipe itself are made of cellular concrete. At the bottom, the pipe is attached to the pillars, the base of the hearth and the vault with fire-resistant cement mortar. The pipe is reinforced on top with a sheet of galvanized iron on 4 brick posts.

Rubble stone is needed to finish the floor around the barbecue; the seams are sealed with mortar. For laying, make a 10 cm deepening under the stone and place it on a 50 mm sand cushion.

The concrete blocks are plastered, the shelves on the sides are covered with tiles.

To protect the grill from precipitation, a canopy is attached to the base and floor using corners - four posts connected by spacers and beams, as well as supports that strengthen the joints of the beams with tension bolts.

The rafters are attached to horizontal beams, the sheathing to the rafters, and the tiles to the sheathing. A sheet of galvanized iron is reinforced around the pipe, and a cornice is placed along the edge of the roof.

A door with a lock is attached to the cabinet. Wooden shelves and parts must be treated with an antiseptic to avoid mold and insects in the future.

To reduce the risk of fire of wooden parts, the distance from the fire should be at least 160 mm.

Example No. 3. How to build a barbecue and a canopy for it with your own hands.

Selecting a location

    Area about 2-3 sq.m.

Not far from the house and recreation area.

Nearby is a pond or an alpine slide.

It is highly desirable to erect a canopy.

Work progress

A trench 30 cm deep is dug under the foundation, which is filled with gravel and compacted. A mesh or reinforcing bars are laid on top of this pillow in a lattice. After constructing the formwork with a height of 10 cm, we fill it all with concrete. After 2 days, you can start building a barbecue with your own hands.

Required

    15 gas silicate blocks

    150 pcs. kiln brick

    6-8 buckets of clay

    1 bag of cement

    Sand medium grain

    Hammer, trowel

  • 2 buckets*10 liters

A pair of barrels of 80-100 liters each for preparing clay mortar

    Tub for preparing cement mortar

1 ton of cobblestones. At least one side of these cobblestones must be flat, if not, then you need to split them with a sledgehammer.

Preparation of clay solution

Crush 6 buckets of red clay and pour into a barrel. After a week, mix thoroughly to form a “jelly”. Scoop 2-3 buckets from the barrel, pour through a sieve into a box containing 2-3 buckets of sand. Then add a liter of cement there and mix.

Test of strength

If the clay solution slid off the trowel, tilted at 45 degrees, and left no traces, everything is fine.

Sand-cement mortar is mixed in a ratio of 3 to 1.

BBQ components

    Furnace part

    Niche for firewood

    Two table tops

    Wash basin

The base (pedestal) of a barbecue with a niche for firewood 70 cm high is laid out of silicate blocks using a cement-sand mortar. The size of the woodpile is chosen so that it can accommodate firewood for 2-3 fireboxes.

The firebox and chimney are laid out of 150 pieces of stove brick using clay mortar.

The base consists of two rows of bricks, which protrude forward by a third, so that in the future there is the possibility of facing with natural stone. The oven is made either rectangular or arched. The combustion part is laid out 3 bricks deep and 5-7 bricks wide.

If you are making an arched shape, then a “template” is first made from boards, the upper rows are hemmed in the form of a wedge, and for strength it is advisable to use reinforcement.

The chimney is also laid using clay mortar. A valve is inserted into the chimney, and back wall a bend is made, the so-called “chimney tooth”, which improves traction.

At the level of the stove it is necessary to make a niche in which there will be a sink with warm water supplied. On the back side of the barbecue you need to make niches from gas silicate blocks on a cement-sand mortar for buckets of water with closing doors.

Countertops can be made from either wood or concrete and then finished with tiles.

When laying, pipes are installed in the corners to make up the roof frame. Additional amenities include a coal box with a stand for skewers, a stove-shaped valve, a table and chairs under a canopy, hedge around everything.

Example No. 4. How to make a country barbecue from natural stone and brick with your own hands.

Required

Natural stone, crushed stone, sand, reinforcement, cement, boards, plywood, brick, nails, screws, tools.

Work progress

The foundation was made with reserve. To the depth of freezing, holes are drilled in the corners of the future foundation, into which reinforcement is inserted, and then filled with concrete, the reinforcement should stick out 20 cm above the ground.

After the concrete has hardened, formwork is made in the holes, reinforced, while the protruding rods from the holes are connected to the flowing rods, and the whole thing is filled with concrete. After 2 days, when the concrete has hardened, you can begin construction.

We also make the lower part of the barbecue (underframe and tabletop) using formwork and concrete; it should be 20-25 cm smaller than the foundation on all sides.

To make a vault in a semicircle, a frame is made from a block, plywood, a sheet of metal or linoleum is stuffed on top, which are designed to make the surface smooth, so that this part will later become the inner vault.

The whole thing is laid with stones and cement mortar. It should also be remembered that this box is also reinforced with protruding rods of 5-8 cm, which will then be connected to the tabletop reinforcement.

The formwork for the tabletop is made of plywood and fastened to the formwork of the underframe; it is also reinforced and filled with concrete.

After the concrete has hardened, we begin to lay the brazier (oven) itself. The rectangular firebox is made of stove bricks on a clay mortar, the ceiling is made of corners and bricks. The masonry gradually tapers upward - by 2 cm per row, the chimney should ultimately be 12 * 12 cm.

The chimney is already laid with cement mortar. The firebox is lined with natural stone, and a galvanized iron canopy is attached to the chimney.

Flaws

    You can only barbecue

    Uneven heating

Reinforced foundation even at freezing depth

Concrete countertop - may burst, may crack

    No roof

Positive sides

    It looks cool

    Is this not enough?

Construction of a barbecue with a cauldron at the dacha with your own hands.

The cauldron is used 2-3 times a season for preparing pilaf and fish soup.

Material

    Fireclay bricks - 980 pieces

Factory mix for masonry “Hercules” – bag for 50 bricks

Diamond wheels for cutting and chamfering – 3*230 mm and 2*180 mm

    Cast iron and cauldron

Fireclay brick is impregnated with heat-resistant matte impregnation that can withstand 350-400 C.

The brick was cut with a grinder and chamfered on a tile cutting machine.

The ceiling on which the coals lie was made from a sheet of St3 metal 5-7 m thick; brick and asbestos cardboard were placed on the sheet. You can install a cast iron stove. The hood can be welded from metal and then coated with heat-resistant paint.

The presence of a tuck is important; it allows you to reduce heat loss and smoke through the gaps. Undercut - the chimney goes first down, then up, that is, the very place where hot gases change direction from downward to upward.

If you are making a barbecue or fireplace under the ceiling, and the top row has cracks, which means smoke appears, you need to seal it with a heat-resistant sealant. For beauty, the brick was coated with fire-resistant varnish, and the fireboxes were lined with a fire-resistant mixture.

The literal translation of the word barbecue from French literally means “from muzzle to tail.” This means that the brazier was supposed to fry a whole bull over coals. In today's refined society, such an idea is unlikely to captivate anyone, but frying kebabs in a summer cottage or baking fish on coals is exactly what everyone likes and wants, regardless of the time of year. Therefore, stone barbecues are at the peak of popularity and demand. Even if it is built by a professional stove maker, it is a good idea to understand not only the fashion trends of such a structure, but also have an idea of its functionality. This article, suggested by our experts, will help you.

Where, how and from what is a barbecue built?

A barbecue is first and foremost an oven. It is built, as a rule, on an open area of stones, following simple rules when selecting a place for its construction:

It is built from stone or brick. This stove looks like a fireplace. Depending on the decorative finishing, from a purely functional structure it can become a decoration of a summer cottage. For its construction and decoration it is expected to use:

  • Rubble stone, this is a conglomerate
  • From natural components - dolomite, limestone or sandstone. It can be torn irregular shape and is used for decoration.
  • Wild stone - in everyday life called “savage”. Finishing material from sandstone, granite chips, quartz. Used for finishing and decorating stone barbecues.
  • Refractory bricks for the actual laying of the furnace itself.

How to build a fireplace stove? It is better, of course, to contact a stove specialist. He will do the masonry, the decor, and the draft - everything will be done according to science. And the cladding will be constructed from natural or artificial material. But if your hands are growing out of the right place and shoeing a flea is a piece of cake, then take on the matter yourself. The process is labor-intensive, but excitingly interesting.

How to make a stone barbecue with your own hands

In such
The oven usually contains a barbecue, a smokehouse, a grill with a spit, a tandoor for baking flatbreads, a hob and an oven. It’s a pleasure to cook with such a “multifunctional device”. And building this stone barbecue correctly is a source of special pride for the owner.

, is a convenient design in every sense for a summer house, cottage or ordinary residential building.

But what is the difference? Why do many people choose a natural stone barbecue instead of a portable barbecue? The fact is that stone or brick buildings in private sectors are level. Even a barbecue under the gazebo line can emphasize individuality, family well-being and a love of healthy food.

Stone models

Any barbecue made of stone or brick is not a building for open space. Yes, someone will start an argument about this, but the gluing solution contains clay, and it absorbs precipitation. Therefore, it is more correct to build structures like this:

  • A grill stove with a chimney for a gazebo.
  • Universal ovens for barbecue, kebabs and general cooking. People call it an “outdoor multifunctional oven.”
  • Installation under a brick barbecue.

What to choose for construction

A barbecue for a summer residence is not always an intricate design with several compartments, pipes and doors. You can also assemble small, fairly economical barbecues from stone. And they will also play the role of a barbecue.

For your information! Brick, no matter how it sounds, affects the taste of the dish. There is a difference between an oven and a stone oven. Therefore, even ordinary porridge in a pot tastes different, let alone meat.

If you need an installation made of natural stone for your dacha (this is a seasonal job), then choose a simple model.

It doesn't have to be hidden under a roof. And on the free shelf you can grill kebabs or arrange a picnic table.

For your information! All similar models that require cladding and complex drawings are best left to professionals.

Choosing material

We focus not on breed, but on size. Natural stone (popularly simply wild) can cope with high temperatures, so it’s better not to worry about changes during work: nothing will crack. But with the solution, be more careful for natural materials.

In masonry they give preference to:

  • Sandstone.
  • Granite.
  • Dolomite.
  • Slate.
  • Shungite.
  • Quartzite.

Standard cement, crushed stone and sand are not always convenient here. Some ovens or barbecues use a clay substitute. But this is for a closed structure.

A barbecue made of stone on the street should not get wet, so the presence of a good brand of cement is a prerequisite

Preparing the tools

The work of a mason is not just a trowel and a hammer. Arming ourselves:

  • Bulgarian.
  • Measuring tape.
  • With a chisel.
  • With a hand jigsaw.
  • With a sledgehammer.
  • A concrete mixer (if the work is more serious than several square meters of one and a half to two meters).
  • Rubber hammer.
  • Saw.
  • Level.

Ancillary equipment for convenience:

  • Shovels.
  • Wheelbarrow.
  • Buckets.

Important! If you use natural stone, then it is advisable to look for a special adhesive composition for it. Usually they try to sell it complete with building materials.

Where do we start?

So, we will make a barbecue out of stone or brick in the open air. We don't need construction crews. It’s easier to do everything without haste here. It is not difficult to build from stone with your own hands, because the masonry will be wide, which means that a perfectly flat surface will be level.

We organize the foundation like this:

  1. For the entire barbecue area, you need to dig a shallow trench with a margin of 20 cm on each side. Approximately this is one and a half bayonets of a shovel.
  2. Gravel and sand are poured into it as a cushion (5-8 cm layers, no more needed). Then one layer is poured into which the grate is recessed. Reinforcement is required even for a structure with an area of 1.5 by 1.5 meters.

We observe the following rules before working with stone:

  1. The foundation must be 15-20 cm above ground level. Only then can the installation of the base begin.
  2. The first 2-3 layers of small stone can and should be laid out on regular cement mortar.

Designs with a solid countertop are now in fashion. For this you need to prepare serious (expensive) materials and even calculate the total load on the base. Assemble on your own a real hearth with a pipe under summer kitchen not everyone can do it

Working with stone

Gradual laying according to a simple scheme, for example, like this:

The drawings are the most common. There is no need for wooden patterns here, as in the construction of complex facing structures. But they pay great attention to the joints. Each of them must be generously coated with the solution. And each of the stones is selected individually for fit.

The walls are not always needed as a ruler; the beauty of the stone is that natural tubercles and pits will not negatively affect the overall strength of the structure, but will add aesthetic grace.

How to arrange a work surface

Having collected several rows, you can prepare a surface for firewood and coal. But on top of all this you will need fastenings and supports. They do this: if you need to make the work area universal, then equip the far wall with several rods for support. This will make it more convenient to place skewers or grates over the coal.

When the working surface remains completely free of metal, then temporary steel elements are needed

The hearth itself can be made of either brick or wild stone. It will be closed, and it won’t get much heat. It's more difficult with the work plane next to it.

Here you already need a tile or stone type tile. Otherwise, you won’t even be able to put down a cup without problems: everything will spill.

About budget finishing

Not everyone has the funds for expensive cubic meters of wild stone, and people build from what is left of important buildings on the territory.

And this is normal ceramic brick. Making a very primitive hearth with a roof out of it is a job for high school students

And even in such a simple barbecue, food is prepared with joy. But you can’t just leave red walls and traces of mortar. Will need finishing.

Therefore, we must plaster the external planes one by one and apply decorative stone. Which to choose? Yes, the one that looks more like a mosaic! Expensive is not always appropriate, but a homemade stone grill for the garden can be decorated with stones from the coast.

Results

For the usual 8-10 garden acres, the lightest and most inexpensive design is sufficient. And the same foundation is not always needed. There are a lot of iron containers at the dachas, so you can accurately assemble the facial contour with such stencils.

And having set a goal to build something special, it is better to hire builders, because the work of a professional already includes the foundation, laying rough material, cladding and grouting.

In the minds and consciousness of the majority, a dacha is certainly associated with a place of relaxation and quiet pastime; a cozy gazebo and barbecue become attributes of relaxation. One of the options is a stone grill, which will be discussed.

Executed in compliance with all building codes and rules, using high quality natural materials, it serves as the pride and decoration of a landscaped suburban area.

Preparation

Before starting construction, you should think in advance about the place where it will be installed, the design and dimensions, accompanying structures, as well as the materials that serve as the basis.

Choosing a location. Ideally, the grill is equipped in close proximity to the gazebo, dining area, or covered terrace. This makes it easier to prepare food, cook meals and serve the table.

Important! A brazier built independently must meet a number of safety requirements:

  • protection from gusts of wind;
  • distance from trees and bushes;
  • absence of flammable objects near the barbecue.

In addition, from an aesthetic point of view, a country grill should be organically combined with the design of the landscape of the site.

Design and dimensions

Regarding the configuration, the grill can be very simple, consisting of a base and a roasting pan, or multi-tasking, including a smokehouse, stove, and countertop.

The choice of design is purely individual and depends on the functions assigned to it and the preferences of the owners:

  1. The dimensions of a stationary barbecue are calculated depending on the height of the people who will use it. So, for people of average height the following values apply:
  2. Height. Not lower than 80 and not higher than 1 meter. For better orientation, it should not exceed the height of a person’s arms, bent at the elbows and standing on their feet. That is, the height of the grill should allow you to easily rotate skewers and turn dishes on the grill.;
  3. Width. As a rule, 400 mm is sufficient to accommodate the standard number of skewers (8-10). However, it is recommended to have a reserve for quiet operation, therefore the internal width of the roasting pan is at least 50 - 60 cm.
  4. The depth of the grill is calculated by the length of the skewers and the dimensions of the grill. Most often these are values from 30 to 40 cm. The heat located at the bottom of the fryer should cover the entire portion of food.
  5. The space under the broiler. It is advisable to use the remaining space under the brazier for storing firewood, coal reserves, and equipment.

Selection of materials

One of the main advantages of building a barbecue made of stone is the availability of materials. Having natural stones at your disposal, you can create true masterpieces of architecture and design. Traditionally, they build from two types of stone:

  • natural;
  • artificial.

Natural stone, on the one hand, is easier to obtain, but on the other hand, it takes much more time to process and adjust it to each other. Therefore, if funds are available, artificial stone is often used. Thus, for the equipment of stationary grills and barbecues use:

  • granite;
  • processed sandstone;
  • slate;
  • natural cobblestones;
  • flagstone;
  • brick;
  • facing tiles.

The choice of artificial stone gives the structure neatness, elegance of lines and is combined with the facades of permanent buildings made of siding and facing bricks. The use of “wild” stone and cobblestones allows it to be combined with houses and gazebos made of natural wood and logs.

Video selection of different options for stone barbecues:

Construction of the foundation

Construction of a barbecue. Step 1.

Building a foundation is a mandatory task that should not be ignored. If it is absent, you may encounter the fact that after some time, rains and meltwater will erode the soil under the foundation, and the structure, at best, will become warped. Therefore, preparing the site and pouring the foundation is the first step.

To do this, dig a pit with a depth of at least 80 cm and a width of at least 30 cm from the width of each side of the planned structure. An expanded clay cushion is poured into the pit and carefully compacted. Then, mixing, layers of crushed stone and sand are poured. If the water content in the soil is high, it is recommended to build a reinforced frame. This will help maintain the structure of the grill when the soil structure changes. Then formwork is built along the entire perimeter of the pit. Traditionally, it is made of boards or plywood and protrudes 15 - 20 cm above ground level. The resulting step will be the base of the barbecue.

The next step is to pour a concrete mixture of water, sand and cement in a proportion of 1 part cement to 3 parts sand. Fine crushed stone is also added to the mixture to increase the amount of binding substances. The poured foundation is left to completely set for several days and then the construction of the grill itself begins.

Construction of the structure

Construction of a barbecue. Step 2.

The laying of the barbecue is carried out on the foundation plinth. When constructing it, an indispensable tool is a level - laser or bubble. It will help to achieve even vertical and horizontal construction. The principles of masonry are not very different from pure brick. A binding solution is applied to the lower plane of the stones placed on top of each other.

Important! For laying stones or bricks, use a specially prepared mixture of clay and sand, soaked in water for 2 to 3 days, or special oven adhesives for stone. Ordinary cement mortar is not helpful in this case, since under the influence of high temperatures, cracks are very likely to appear in the masonry.

The main structure is laid out with stone, which, due to its characteristics, will withstand repeated sudden temperature changes. In this case, the brazier and firebox must be made of fire-resistant material, for example, brick. They immediately think through the elements for installing the dome and chimney, if any are included in the project, and also install metal brackets in the inner perimeter of the brazier, on which the mesh or skewers will be installed.

Construction of a barbecue. Step 3.

The design of a stationary grill should include a hole in the bottom of the roaster to create air draft. It is also advisable to organize smoke removal if space allows. Arranging a small dome will add comfort to cooking and eliminate annoying smoke in windy weather.

The finished main structure should be faced with stone. This is the most creative part of the whole event. Carefully selected stones of different sizes and shapes are carefully coated with special glue and placed tightly together. In this case, two rows of stones of the outer and main structure are periodically connected to each other using thin metal rods or wire. In this way, an overall integral structure is obtained that will not fall apart into its component parts over time.

conclusions. Creating a stone barbecue can transform a neglected area and dining area into the most enjoyable place to relax. Built tastefully to suit everyone technical standards, using natural materials, it will become not only an outdoor decoration for your dacha, but also a traditional fireplace where you will want to cook the most delicious dishes of meat, fish and vegetables.

Almost everyone today dreams of their own country house, where it would be nice to spend a vacation or at least a weekend. When purchasing a house outside the city, the owners furnish it in every possible way - both inside and outside. A DIY brazier is an important element of a summer house or country house.

How to properly fold an outdoor grill

At a family holiday, a barbecue is an obligatory (or welcome) guest. Folding or portable structures You can easily take it with you outdoors, on a trip or travel. It is even possible to move it to the gazebo. will become a real miracle or a work of art. It is being made with your own hands and are located near the gazebo or porch of the house - a place that serves for relaxation or gatherings.

Stationary grill can be made of any material and of different shapes (types can be seen in the photo). A very popular grill is made from. After all, this material can be easily given the desired shape. For such a structure (if you do not have welding skills), it is better to seek help from a specialist who will do all the work based on photos or ready-made drawings. But you will probably be pleased to boast to your guests that you made this barbecue with your own hands.

Unfortunately, the metal will not last long. After all, constant contact with fire can easily burn it. Therefore, some parts will have to be replaced with new ones. To prevent this from happening, you can choose an arc material to create - stone or brick.

Brazier made of stone
more reliable and efficient, but it will cost more expensive than its brick counterpart. Moreover, it is very difficult to purchase stone, and laying uneven stone is very inconvenient even for a professional craftsman.
